Rooted in Legacy, Rising with Purpose

Born and raised in Calgary, Fortesa grew up in a family deeply rooted in tradition, education, and strong values. Her father, Agron, has a diplomatic background, with his own father serving as an Ambassador to Canada, a role that originally brought the family to the country Fortesa calls home. Alongside her younger brother Ari, whom she has always respected, Fortesa was nurtured in a close-knit environment shaped by parents who emphasized mutual respect, love, and consideration. Despite the age difference between siblings, their relationship remains strong, reflecting the foundational values instilled from an early age.

Fortesa grew up in an environment where education, integrity, and diligence were central values, consistent with many Albanian families. These guiding principles were demonstrated through her parents’ actions. Her father’s dedication to entrepreneurial endeavors and her mother’s pursuit of a doctoral degree in Psychology exemplified commitment and perseverance. Despite their demanding careers, both parents prioritized their full presence in all aspects of their children’s lives, including school activities, homework assistance, volunteering, and attending sporting events and competitions. Their steadfast involvement had a significant and enduring influence on Fortesa and her brother.

Where Heritage Becomes Strength

Family travels to culturally, historically, and architecturally significant destinations throughout Europe and beyond were pivotal in Fortesa’s upbringing. Regular visits to Kosova, Albania, and other regions with strong Albanian heritage strengthened her connection to her roots. These experiences enhanced her understanding and appreciation of the warmth, resilience, and hospitality of the Albanian people.

From an early age, her parents instilled in Fortesa a strong sense of Albanian identity and pride, grounded in historical awareness and a commitment to the welfare of both the motherland and Albanian people. In 1999, her parents organized and led public demonstrations in Calgary in support of NATO interventions to halt the genocide in Kosova. They actively participated in television and newspaper interviews to inform Canadians about the ongoing crisis in Kosova and to advocate for the Kosovar people, thousands of whom later found refuge in Canada. These and numerous other sustained efforts in activism serve as a testament to the enduring values that continue to influence Fortesa’s perspectives.

A Life Shaped by Values and Vision

Today, Fortesa is happily married to the love of her life, a partnership rooted in mutual respect, shared values, and a deep appreciation for family and tradition. His proposal at the historic Ulcinj Castle, during a family vacation, marked not only a romantic milestone but a symbolic moment, one that beautifully reflected Fortesa’s connection to heritage, place, and belonging.
Together, they are building a life defined by intention rather than excess. Travel remains a meaningful part of their journey, not as an escape, but as a way to stay connected to culture, history, and one another. Their shared love for exploration is balanced by a strong sense of home, grounded in close family ties, lasting friendships, and everyday moments that reflect gratitude and presence.

Your career in commercial real estate officially began in 2021, but you grew up surrounded by the industry. How did those early experiences shape the way you approach your role today at CDNGLOBAL?

My early exposure to commercial real estate provided a comprehensive understanding of the industry’s complexity and the pivotal roles that relationships, strategic planning, and risk management play in successful transactions. These foundational insights continue to inform my approach to real estate exchanges today. I have also gained an appreciation for maintaining a long-term perspective, recognising that achievement in this sector emerges from sustained, purposeful effort.

In my current position at CDNGLOBAL, I am committed to professional development, discipline, and focused leadership built upon mentoring and guidance. I aim to support young professionals seeking to advance their careers within commercial real estate by offering effective mentorship and direction essential for growth and achievement. Having personally benefited from great mentorship, I understand its critical impact on professional success and strive to promote it within our field.

Taking on leadership in business is both an opportunity and a responsibility. What has been the most rewarding part of working at CDNGLOBAL, and what challenges have you faced in making it your own?

Working at CDNGLOBAL has afforded me the unique opportunity to collaborate with my father, a privilege that has been both meaningful and instrumental to my professional development. Under his leadership, the organization fosters a secure environment that encourages risk taking and learning from mistakes, allowing all employees access to growth opportunities across various company operations. This inclusive culture has accelerated my professional advancement and strengthened my commitment to upholding CDNGLOBAL’s standards of ethical practice and excellence.

My initial experience at CDNGLOBAL presented significant challenges. Because of my association with established leadership, I had to consistently demonstrate perseverance, resilience, and dedication to earn the respect of my colleagues through my work. The organization, led by my father and an accomplished leadership team, has built a robust reputation within the Canadian real estate industry and beyond, establishing networks and teams recognized for their integrity, competence and professionalism. Upholding and advancing this legacy are a responsibility I approach with determination; my current objective is to continue expanding my knowledge, gain further experience, and strengthen the trust placed in me professionally. The Haskayne School of Business emphasizes innovation and entrepreneurship. How has your education influenced your decision-making and leadership style in such a competitive industry?

My university years were highly influential in shaping my development prior to joining CDNGLOBAL. During this period, I developed a strong appreciation for collaboration and teamwork. My education at the Haskayne School of Business underscored the importance of critical and diverse perspectives in effective decision-making and leadership. CDNGLOBAL places significant value on individuals with varied skills and backgrounds, fostering a dynamic and inclusive culture that promotes growth by encouraging healthy discourse. Through my experience, I have recognised that I thrive in environments where diversity is actively supported and leveraged to drive innovation and entrepreneurship.

CDNGLOBAL prides itself on independence and flexibility compared to other national and global brokerages. How does this independence give you an advantage in serving the commercial real estate market?

Trust is our core value, and it works both ways. Because our company is built on a foundation of trust, we can operate with flexibility and empower individuals to take ownership of their work and decisions. Strong training gives us confidence in our brokers, and that confidence allows them the freedom to excel.

Our independence allows us to act quickly, adapt to evolving opportunities, and provide customized solutions. In commercial real estate market where timing can be everything—this agility gives our clients a competitive edge. We can move decisively, respond strategically, and ultimately help our clients achieve their goals more efficiently.
This kind of independent and flexible working frame from which we approach our clients contribute to growing and ongoing relationships with them.

As a young woman in a traditionally male-dominated field, what barriers have you encountered, and how do you see representation evolving for women in real estate?

As a woman working in a male-dominated industry, I often find it necessary to establish my credibility through means not always required of my male peers. I strive to maintain self-awareness and engage with colleagues in a manner that is confident, competent and well-received. Societal double standards regarding leadership styles mean that displays of confidence may be interpreted differently depending on gender. Nonetheless, these standards are continually challenged by women across industries who approach professional interactions with resilience, expertise, and determination to deliver results and pursue their goals. This is equally relevant at leadership levels, where increased representation is essential. By challenging traditional norms and stereotypes and fostering collaboration and support among women in male-dominated sectors, we can diversify leadership roles and contribute to innovative leadership practices. Women bring unique perspectives to leadership demonstrating passion, thoughtfulness, and empathy, which are valuable assets in any organization.

Real estate is about more than transactions it’s about relationships and vision. What values guide you when working with clients and building trust in the community?

At its foundation, real estate is fundamentally about building relationships. Professional interactions reflect personal values, with respect, transparency, and integrity in client communications serving as key elements in fostering strong business relationships. Developing trusting and reputable connections with industry peers is equally important; while competition exists, prioritizing collaborative practices supports both individual and organizational success within the industry. Consistent commitment to ethical and professional standards establishes credibility and earns the respect of colleagues, thereby cultivating a reputation grounded in trust.
