Justin Trudeau, Katy Perry spotted dining together at high-end Montreal restaurant
Pop icon Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were spotted sharing a quiet dinner Monday night at Le Violon, one of Montreal’s most acclaimed fine-dining restaurants. The unexpected sighting, first reported by TMZ, quickly sparked widespread speculation and online chatter.
According to the entertainment outlet, Perry and Trudeau were seen seated at a table for two at Le Violon, a Plateau-area restaurant led by celebrity chef Danny Smiles. The two reportedly spent about two hours enjoying cocktails and sharing several dishes, including one featuring lobster. Earlier that day, the pair were also seen walking together in Montreal’s Mount Royal Park.
While the nature of their dinner remains unclear, restaurant staff described the duo as “kind and warm.” Samantha Jin, a communications consultant for Le Violon, told The Canadian Press that neither staff nor other diners approached the pair for photos. “We kind of got the vibe that they were a little more chill,” Jin said, adding that there were “no visual signs of PDA or anything.”
Chef Smiles stopped by their table during the evening, and before leaving, Perry and Trudeau made a point of visiting the kitchen to personally thank the entire team—an appreciated gesture that highlighted their down-to-earth demeanour.
Both Perry and Trudeau have recently undergone public breakups. Perry separated from longtime partner Orlando Bloom, while Trudeau and his ex-wife Sophie Grégoire announced their separation in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage.
Perry is currently in Canada as part of her Lifetimes Tour, with upcoming performances in Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City.
Le Violon, known for its seafood-forward menu and seasonal Quebecois cuisine, was recently ranked 11th on the prestigious list of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants.
While the dinner has left fans and media curious about what may have brought the global pop star and Canadian political figure together, for now, the evening remains a private affair—served with a side of lobster and mystery.
