The Albanian Flag Paints the Streets of Montreal in Celebration of Independence Day
Albanian Community in Montreal Celebrates 112th Independence Day with Vibrant Parade
Montreal witnessed a sea of red and black as Albanians from across Quebec gathered to celebrate the 112th anniversary of Albania’s Independence Day. Organized by ALB Event and Lori Bar, the second annual Albanian Parade Car brought thousands of participants and onlookers to the streets, turning the city into a festive display of patriotism and culture.
The event commemorated the historic day of November 28, 1912, when Ismail Qemali raised the Albanian flag in Vlora, declaring the country’s independence. This pivotal moment, which opened the National Assembly with 40 delegates, marked the beginning of Albania’s journey toward recognition as a sovereign state by the global powers of the time.

Dressed in traditional folk costumes and the national colors of red and black, participants filled Montreal’s streets, celebrating under the rhythm of lively Albanian music. The parade included decorated cars, cultural displays, and enthusiastic community members waving flags, creating a joyful and nostalgic atmosphere for both the Albanian diaspora and local residents.
This celebration, now an annual tradition in Canada, reflects the Albanian community’s pride in its heritage and unity in preserving cultural identity abroad. It is a testament to their continued efforts to share the richness of their traditions with the broader Canadian society.
The festivities concluded with a call for preserving Albania’s cultural legacy while embracing the opportunities of a multicultural environment like Montreal, ensuring that the significance of November 28 remains alive for generations to come.
