Vasfije Krasniqi in “Vogue” magazine among 250 survivors of sexual violence worldwide
There are wounds so deep that language neglects them. Rape is one of them. It is silenced by force and then by shame – leaving survivors isolated not only in their pain but also in their perceived inability to talk about it.
“Let’s Talk About Rape,” the long-term project by photographer and activist Jadwiga Brontē, confronts that silence with radical clarity, creating a space where testimony, solidarity, and visibility come together, writes Vogue.
Among many women from around the world, Vasfije Krasniqi Goodman from Kosovo was also included in this Vogue project.
One of the bravest voices of survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo is featured in Vogue magazine as part of the international project “Let’s Talk About Rape.” This powerful project by photographer Jadwiga Brontē brings into focus the stories of women who have experienced trauma, helping them regain control over their narrative through art and self-representation.
Vasfije was just 16 years old when she was abducted and raped by Serbian forces during the 90s war in Kosovo. For years, she remained silent, like many other women who faced the same pain. But in 2015, she decided to speak out publicly – becoming the first Kosovo Albanian woman to openly testify about the sexual violence she experienced during the war. Since that day, she has become a symbol of resistance and courage, becoming a voice for those who still cannot speak.
